History
The National Black Coalition of Canada, Edmonton (NBCC), was registered federally on October 19, 1969, and became the first Black and/or Caribbean National Organization in Canada.
In 1978, The Edmonton Chapter was founded and later registered under the Alberta Societies Act on October 16, 1985.
All efforts are made to ensure that our Community fully participates in economic, political, social, cultural, educational and health matters. We also foster relationships with other Canadians from all cultural backgrounds.
Our local activities range from offering workshops in skill development, networking and community building, art and historical exhibitions, book fair, Black History Month Festival, working with schools and agencies to develop and maintain culturally sensitive programs.
Vision
NBCC is looking to the future with eager anticipation. NBCC purchased, in a joint venture with the Jamaican Association Northern Alberta [JANA], a 13,600 square foot building in Edmonton North Central community.
Renovations of the building are currently underway, and NBCC with JANA, envision a complex where those in the community can come and create, engage intellectually and enjoy numerous activities.
